Private General Practice

Your own doctor.

One doctor, who knows you well.

Every appointment is with me. I aim to meet you at the door rather than in a waiting room. And if you’re too unwell to come in, I can come to you.

Unhurried appointments.

Most appointments are around half an hour, and longer when needed. There’s no annual allowance and no charge per visit, so you never have to weigh up whether something is worth an appointment.

My mobile number, at any hour.

Call or message me directly. If there is anything urgent, you can call me in the evenings, at night or through the weekend. If I can’t answer straight away, leave a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

This is not an emergency line. If you have been unable to get through, your problem cannot wait or you have an emergency, call 999 or go to the nearest emergency department.

No extra charges.

Consultations, phone calls, prescriptions, referrals, letters and home visits are all included, as are standard blood tests, from a full blood count to cholesterol, ApoB and Lp(a). Uncommon tests are charged at exactly what the laboratory charges me, so there’s no financial reason for me to do a test, or not to. No admin fee. No courier fee. No prescription fee.

A yearly health review.

Around six months after you join, and every year after that, we set aside time for a detailed review: your history, your risks, your medications, the relevant bloods, and the detailed measurements worth tracking over time. It looks at where your health is heading, not only at what’s wrong today, so gradual changes are easier to spot.

Children, at no extra charge.

Your children are members too, until their 18th birthday, at no cost. Same doctor, same access, same mobile number.

Also included

What membership doesn’t cover

Emergencies: call 999 or 112. Imaging, such as X-rays and scans, is arranged elsewhere and charged by the provider.

Fees

Founding membership: €150 a month, for the first 20 adult members.

After that: €250 a month, with an introductory fee of €200 a month for the first 12 months.

Paid monthly by direct debit. Children included at no extra charge. No joining fee, no minimum term; cancel at any time, for any reason, with 30 days’ notice.

Because the fee is the same every month, contacting me costs nothing extra. There’s never a reason to hesitate before calling.

To join, or just to ask about it, call 021 471 8111 or email james@maybrook.ie.

Questions

Can I use my medical card or GP visit card?

Unfortunately not. Maybrook is a private practice and doesn’t hold a GMS, GP visit card or under-6s/under-8s contract with the HSE, so I can’t provide care under those schemes. If you or your children rely on them, please keep your current registration.

What happens when you’re on leave?

I publish my leave at least eight weeks ahead. While I’m away, a trusted GP colleague covers urgent problems from 8am to 9pm, with access to your notes, at no extra charge.

Can I join if I live outside Kinsale?

Possibly. Home visits are limited to 20 minutes’ drive, and living nearby makes it easier to see you quickly when you need it. If you’re further out, we’ll talk about whether Maybrook is the right fit for you.

Will you get my records from my previous GP?

Yes, with your consent.

Can I stay registered with my current GP too?

Who you attend is your choice. But one practice holding your full record is much safer: it’s clear what’s prescribed, who prescribed it, what’s going on, and what the plan is. I’d encourage you to choose one.

Does health insurance cover it?

Generally, no. Most insurers don’t cover membership fees, but policies differ, so it’s worth asking yours.
